Those first few days with your baby are incredibly precious.
Everything is new. The tiny fingers, the sleepy stretches, the little noises, the way they curl up in your arms. It can feel like time has slowed down, yet somehow those first weeks disappear in an instant.
That’s why I love newborn photography.
To capture your baby just as they are in those first precious days — tiny, sleepy, curled up and completely yours — is a real privilege.
These are photographs that will take you right back to the very beginning, long after those little fingers and toes have grown.
Newborn photography isn’t about rushing your baby into a pose.
Your baby’s comfort and safety always come first.
During those first couple of weeks, babies tend to be sleepier and naturally curl into those beautiful poses we remember from the womb. For this reason, I recommend scheduling your experience when your baby is 14 days old or younger.
It is possible to photograph older babies, but they can be a little more alert and less willing to settle into those sleepy, curled-up poses.
We’ll simply work at your baby’s pace, with plenty of time for feeds, changes, cuddles and settling whenever they’re needed.
Most newborn experiences take place in the comfort of your own home.
I’ll bring everything I need with me, including a selection of beautiful props, backgrounds and wraps, allowing us to create a lovely variety of photographs without you having to travel anywhere with your new baby.
There is no need to worry about having a perfect home either. I’ll bring a simple portable setup and we’ll find the space that works best.
Your family can be part of the experience too. If you’d like to include Mum and Dad, brothers and sisters, a favourite toy or a special family keepsake, I’d love to include them.
If you’d prefer a studio experience, that’s possible too, so just let me know and we can discuss the options.
Newborns don’t work to a schedule — and that’s perfectly okay.
Although your experience may take around two to four hours, this isn’t two to four hours of photographing your baby.
We’ll take our time and pause whenever your little one needs feeding, changing, comforting or simply a cuddle with Mum or Dad.
I recommend keeping the rest of your day free after your experience, so there is no pressure if your baby takes a little longer to settle.
A feed before we begin can often be helpful, as a lovely sleepy baby makes those first photographs much easier.
